Apart of & Between Then, Now, and Soon

This body of work features visual depictions of The Mundane Afrofuturist Manifesto by Martine Syms. This manifesto calls out the traditional sense of Afrofuturism, an ideal that places Black bodies among the stars, as celestial beings. The author, Syms, challenges Black Afrofuturist artists to adopt this manifesto.

Pulling certain phrases addressing recognition, arguments or affirmations, I created these digital collages in response. Gathering these images, I created a forged landscape that explores what blackness means in the past, the present, and the future.

As a Black person, I believe in the future of black people. However, we must be realistic about our past and our present. Our future does not hang in an untouchable universe, it is right here with us, now.
